John L. Podmilsak, 80, of Cheswick, passed away at home with his family on Monday March 27, 2017.  He was born in Acmetonia on February 23, 1937 to his parents, the late John and Anna Oken Podmilsak and has been a lifelong resident of the community.  Mr. Podmilsak graduated from Springdale High School and served his country in The Army National Guard.  John owned and operated Podmilsaks Market in Harmar where he dedicated his time serving the people of the area, he was everyone’s friend.  In November of 2016 John celebrated the 70 year anniversary of his family business.  A 25-year member of Springdale-Cheswick Lion’s Club, Italian Sons and Daughters of America, SNPJ of Penn Hills, life time member and past president of the Acme Club and a 25 year Board member of both Harmar and Fox Chapel Water Authoritys.  John was an accomplished jazz musician, playing both the saxophone and clarinet.  He enjoyed gardening and tending to his flowers.  When he was not working, he liked to watch Pittsburgh sports teams, although; his favorite baseball team was the St. Louis Cardinals.  Nothing was more important to him than spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Three Grandchildren Eric, Kaylee and Jozef Podmilsak

Brother Ronald Podmilsak (Marie) of VA.

Niece Laura (Xavier) Soloman of CA.

Nephew Scott (Laurie) Podmilsak of UT.

Great-niece and nephews Jacob, Troy, Alexa and Zachary

John’s family will receive friends on Wednesday March 29th from 2-8pm in THE CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC. 801 Pgh. St where a blessing service will commence on Thursday at 10am and burial to follow in Deer Creek Cemetery, Cheswick.  Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society 320 Bilmar Dr. Pgh. Pa. 15205 or the charity
