William (Bill) Hykes Tomlinson, 83, of Oakmont, died on June 3, 2024. Bill was born on September 25, 1940, to parents Joseph Tomlinson and Peg (Hykes) Tomlinson. Bill was a 1958 graduate of Oakmont High School and a 1962 graduate of Lycoming College. On October 6, 1962, Bill married Shadyside Nursing School graduate Doris Jean Page of Greensburg. He dedicated nearly 60 years to the family business, Tomlinson Agency, founded by his father in 1933, providing insurance and real estate services to the community. For many years Tomlinson Agency was a gathering spot during the Oakmont holiday lights decorating, with donuts and warm beverages for the helpers. Bill loved classic cars, and for a time owned a 1939 Plymouth. He was always busy with projects around the house and yard, and no project was too big for him to take on. His children knew when he asked “can you give me 15 minutes” they were joining a much longer and likely arduous endeavor. In addition to being an avid golfer Bill was an accomplished athlete in his youth and was a great teacher and coach to his children and grandchildren during their athletic pursuits. As a sports fan Bill attended Super Bowl X and Super Bowl XIII in Miami to cheer on the Steelers. In later years Siesta Key became his beloved Florida getaway spot. Bill served for 35 years on the Oakmont Water Authority Board of Directors and as an Oakmont Auxiliary Police Officer. Bill was a member of Oakmont Elks Lodge 1668, Oakmont Lions Club, Verona Eagles, Oakmont Chamber of Commerce, Insurance Club of Pittsburgh, Oakmont Yacht Club, Alcoma Country Club, Saxonburg Golf League, and the Krazy Kegglers bowling league. Bill is survived by his wife Doris, sons Mark (Kate) Tomlinson of Pittsburgh, PA, Rick (Cindy) Tomlinson of Wyomissing, PA, Bill Jr. (Paula) Tomlinson of Oakmont, PA, four grandchildren, Kevin, Zachary, Emeline, and Liam, and sister Dorothy Walker of Wooster, OH. Bill was preceded in death by his father Joe and mother Peg. In honor of Bill, memorial contributions may be made to Riverside Parks Association c/o Borough of Oakmont 767 5th St. Oakmont Pa. 15139.
