William P. Henke
Formerly of Springdale
William "Bill" Paul Henke was born Nov. 1, 1929, in Springdale, the youngest of six children to Alfred and Mathilda (Nicholas) Henke. He passed from this life Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, in Winter Park, Fla. Upon graduating from Springdale High in 1947, Bill enlisted in, and was honorably discharged from, the Army, then continued his education, earning a BS in both industrial engineering and mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh, as well as a Master of Science in mathematical statistics from George Washington University. This gained him working with missiles, where he developed a computer simulator model of the Harrier vertical aircraft for the Marines Corps. He is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Abe) Starost; son, Tom (Shannon) Henke; grandchildren, Alexis, Brielle, Charlotte, Olivia and Alexander; special family, Susan, Allison and Mike Henke; as well as many other nieces and nephews. Second only to the pride he carried for his family was his love for the game of golf and all the dogs he ever met. Family will receive friends from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, with a veteran's service at 11:30 a.m., at the CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St. A private graveside service will be held in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Penn Hills.
