Thomas E. Taylor passed away in his sleep on November 7, 2024. He was born in Cheswick to the late Thomas J. Taylor and Anna Hudak Taylor, and is preceded in death by his brother, Robert A. Taylor. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Patricia; his two children, Pam Vrabel and Gordon (Heather) Taylor; his six grandchildren, Amanda (Brian) Scanlon, Kyleigh (Matthew), Tavis, Ian (Julia), Holland, and Hannah Taylor; and his three great-grandchildren, Olivia and Thomas Scanlon, and Josephine Taylor.
Thomas was a 1950 graduate of Springdale High School and a 1959 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Civil Engineering. He was registered in Pennsylvania as a professional engineer, land surveyor and landscape architect. At one time, he was a Pennsylvania-licensed real estate agent and insurance salesperson. He founded the Senate Engineering Company in 1970, a civil engineering firm, and officially retired in December 2015. He also retired as a civilian employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District with 30 years of service. Thomas was a Korean War veteran, The Society of American Military Engineers Pittsburgh Post president 1988-1989, and a U.S. Patent Holder for a glass, thermo-syphon fireplace screen. He was fifty-year member of Verona Masonic Lodge No. 548 and Cheswick Syria Shrine, a member of Cheswick Hunting Club, and a lifetime hunter, fisherman and conservationist. Tom and Pat liked to bicycle. They biked South Africa, the alps of Austria, the dikes in Holland, Prince Edward Island, Cape Cod, Tucson Arizona, Park City Utah, the C&O Canal, and several local trails.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church on December 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
