Sally Dilts Obituary

Sally Ann Dilts, age 92 of Cheswick, PA, went to be with the Lord on September 15, 2026.  Born October 7, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John and Alene Remaley.  Sally's grade school education began while living in Springdale.  Due to her father's occupation as a construction supervisor building power plants throughout the United States, Sally had to move quite often.  The amount of time she lived in one place was based on how long it took a plant to be built.  She ended up being a student in many different schools in various states.  By the time she graduated, she had attended at least 11 schools.  Sally graduated from Fairmont Hight School in Fairmont, WV, and entered Fairmont College majoring in Elementary Education.  She transferred to Slippery Rock after one year since her parents had moved back to Springdale.  There was an addition being built on the power plant there.  Sally happened to meet Richard when she went to see the campus during the summer before school started.  Little did she know at the time he would become her future husband.  Everyone enjoyed hearing her stories about the various schools she had attended.  The curriculum and methods of teaching often depended on the location of the state.  Many changes have been made in teaching from then to the present time.  She used to say the three years at Slippery Rock were the most special years of her whole life.  She was finally able to enjoy being around the same friends and not having to leave them.  In her senior year she was the school's Homecoming Queen, and her beloved Richard was the captain of the football team.  They married in the summer of graduation on August 13, 1955.  Sally taught her first year in Sagertown, PA.  Dick was attending Allegheny College to get his master's degree.  When he graduated, they moved to Springdale.  She was a first-grade teacher in Colfax Schools.  She had to resign when she became pregnant.  You were not permitted to teach after four months.  She substituted for many years and was rehired in 1991.  She then taught 5th grade in Colfax Schools.  Sally retired as a teacher in the Allegheny Valley School District in 2005.  She was a very dedicated teacher who loved all her students.  She always said it was a joy to go to school every day.  Sally was a long-time member of the Springdale United Methodist Church.  After her retirement, she volunteered at HealthSouth.  She also helped manage Jeremiah's Closet when it was in the Methodist Church parsonage.  Gardening was her favorite hobby.  She especially loved growing her grandma's rhubarb.  Everyone enjoyed eating her rhubarb custard pies.  During the winter, she liked to bake.  Cinnamon sticky buns were her specialty.  Almost every evening she and Richard would play a game of cards or work on a project they had started together.  Many summers were spent traveling to various places.  Some of the favorites being Tucson, AZ, where her parents lived for 7 years and Hawaii and Germany to visit their son, John.  Most of all, Sally enjoyed spending time with her 6 grandchildren.  Being an only child, she felt so blessed to be able to visit with her 3 granddaughters and 3 grandsons.  Sally and Richard were married for 68 years. Dick said to also add 3 more years on to that for the college years they were together.  Sally is survived by her two sons, John (Lisa) Dilts of Middleburg, FL , and James (Shelley) Dilts of Vandergrift, PA.  Six grandchildren, Kaylie Dilts, Jenna Dilts, Hunter Dilts, Jack Dilts, Carter Dilts, Kara Dilts, two great granddaughters Kenli Worthing and Oaklynn Worthing, and one great grandson, Tyler Worthing.  Surviving also are numerous nieces and nephews, especially Joanie and Tommy Dilts.  Also, her long-time special friends & neighbors, Carol Forte and Carin and Danny Liberati.

At Sally's request, service will be private at the convenience of the family.  They have been entrusted to the Charles B.
