Sallie Ewing Obituary

Sallie Jo Ewing passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024, at Arden Court in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, at the age of 80. Born on August 30, 1944, Sallie was known for her intelligence, beauty, and a wonderful sense of humor, affectionately nicknamed "Kitten" by those who knew her best.

Sallie dedicated her professional life to education, serving as a reading specialist and English teacher in the New Kensington Arnold School District. Her passion for literature was not just a career but a way of life, as evidenced by her love of reading, especially the works of Stephen King. Sallie also enjoyed knitting, creating "Good Intention Shawls" for friends and loved ones, listening to old radio shows, and bird watching, which brought her immense joy and peace.

Sallie pursued her higher education with vigor, earning an undergraduate degree from Clarion University followed by a Master's degree from Duquesne University. Her commitment to education and personal growth was a testament to her character.

She leaves behind a loving family: her son, Jeffery Scott Ewing of Springdale, PA; her daughter, Holly Beth Wezensky and son-in-law Todd Podmilsak of Cheswick, PA; her brothers, Charles King of Dunmore, PA, and William King of Tionesta, PA. Sallie was a cherished grandmother to Christopher Ewing (Erin) of Weeting Norfolk, United Kingdom; Joseph Michael Wezensky II of Loveland, CO; and a great-grandmother to Sofi, Catriana, and Nico Ewing. She is also survived by her niece, Miaya King (Paul), and nephew, Nathan King. Sallie was preceded in death by her parents, Col Joseph C King and Frances A King.

A private family service will be held to honor Sallie's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Springdale Public Library in Springdale, PA, a place that no doubt was close to her heart given her love for reading and education. Sallie's warmth, wisdom, and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her, leaving a lasting impact on her family, friends, and community.
