Richard C. “Wiss” Wissinger, 64, of Springdale, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, from a heart attack. Born Sept. 28, 1957, son of Clarence E. Wissinger, of Cheswick, and Patricia A. Berkes, of Springdale, who preceded him in death. Beloved brother of Clarence E Wissinger, of Commercial Point, Ohio, and his loving sister-in-law, Joan R Wissinger; loving uncle to Lucas I. Wissinger, of Kingston, Ohio and spouse, Shawney Wissinger; as well as nephew, Jacob T Wissinger, of Akron, Ohio, and fiancé, Colleen Scholtes. Sadly, finding true love at the age of 64 to Deborah (Beerworth) Thomas, of Cheswick. Richard was a graduate of Springdale High School in 1975 and attended Slippery Rock University. Richard was first a Marine and served as a sergeant in the 2nd Marine Division, and was deployed several times, including floats to Beirut, where he was fire direction control NCO for an artillery unit. He earned a sea service deployment ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, and was honorably discharged. Richards favorite quote was "Marines guard the gates of Heaven," so now our Angel returns to active duty. Richard retired from PPG Creighton and followed his passion for golf. It gave him endless years of joy to be a member of River Forest and his wonderful friends he competed against. He was a lifelong resident of Springdale and member of the Presbyterian Church. His family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, in THE CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St. He will be buried in the National Cemetery of The Alleghenies, Bridgeville Thursday with military honors.
