Richard J. Dilts, 93, of Cheswick, went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2024. Born Sept. 30, 1930, he was the son of the late James A. and Ethilda Armstrong Dilts. After graduation from Butler Senior High School, he served three years in the Army during the Korean War, graduated from Slippery Rock College, received his Masters Degree from Allegheny College where he interned as a Physical Education teacher, assistant coach in football and basketball. He began public school teaching at Richland High School for six years as a teacher, athletic director, football and basketball coach. He spent the next 32 years at Kiski Area as a teacher, supervisor of physical education and athletics and head football coach. During that time, he received numerous coaching awards and was inducted into six halls of fame. He was a member of the Springdale United Methodist Church, Springdale VFW, and Apollo Elks. He also served as a Trustee on the Kiski Area Education Foundation and the Kiski Area Sports Hall of Fame. Hobbies included golfing, fishing, and traveling with his wife, Sally Ann. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Arthur B. Dilts and Thomas A. Dilts and his sister Nancy Graham. He is survived by his loving wife, Sally Ann and two sons, John (Lisa) Dilts of Middleburg, FL, and James (Shelley) Dilts of Vandergrift; a sister, Ada J. Walsh of Fox Chapel; and a brother, Robert (Jan) Dilts of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren, Kaylie Dilts, Jenna Dilts, Hunter Dilts, Jack Dilts, Carter Dilts and Kara Dilts; a great-granddaughter, Kenli Worthing; and a great-grandson, Tyler Worthing; along with numerous loving and caring nieces and nephews especially Debbie Brown and Tommy and Joanie Dilts. At Richard's request, services will be private at the convenience of the family. They have been entrusted to the CHARLES B. JARVIE FUNERAL HOME, INC. in Springdale, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all memorial donations be made in Richard's name to the Kiski Area Education Foundation, 200 Poplar Street, Vandergrift, PA 15690.
