Mitchell T. Kovel, 79, of Indianola, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2023, in Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver. He was born May 26, 1943, son of the late Michael Kovel and Helen Halich Kovel, and had been a lifelong resident of Indianola. He served in the Navy. and was honorably discharged. Mitchell attended the University of Pittsburgh, attaining his bachelor's degree in public administration and urban management, which allowed him to achieve his lifelong dream to serve the community as Indiana Township Manager. Serving his community in the Indianola Fire Department as a firefighter and a Chief for 29 of the 56 years of operation. Mr. Kovel was integral in helping to establish Lower Valley Ambulance Service, He served as a paramedic and later on the board of directors. He was an avid hunter and a member of the TCA, and had an extensive collection of American Flyer trains, Surviving family members are wife, Jacqueline V. Kovel; brother, Robert (Nancy) Kovel; nephew, Joseph (Michelle) Kovel; niece, Lisa Marie (Will) Dormann; great-nephew, Mitchell R. Kovel; and great-niece, Ashley Kovel. In childhood, he cherished playing with his favorite cousins, Gerri, Fran and Connie, as well as many other cousins. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday April 17, 2023, in THE CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St., where blessing services will commence at 10 a.m. Tuesday, and burial to follow in Lakewood Memorial Gardens.
