Michael Henry Werries, Jr., of Springdale, Michael Werries (Mike, Mick) was born at Citizen's General Hospital in New Kensington, on Feb.7,1951, and passed away at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, on May 13, 2024, after a month-long battle with medical complications from a Mediastinal Esophageal Hernia. Mike graduated from Springdale High School in 1969, and was awarded an academic scholarship to attend Point Park College where he majored in journalism. He worked at various jobs throughout his life including as a photographer at the Leader Times in Kittanning (a job he never really gave up as he did photography his entire life, even post-retirement). Mike also worked at Qualex (a photo processing plant) and at PGW in Creighton prior to its closing). Mike was a lifelong resident of Springdale, and he was a passionate Dynamo. He enjoyed photographing local events and happenings and posting it on social media. This passion was sparked long before the digital age. He was a member of Guardian Angels parish, the New Kensington Camera club and the SHS Alumni Committee and we would like to thank all the wonderful support and outreach those members have provided in the last several weeks. He enjoyed the cards, messages, and heartfelt wishes immensely, it meant so much. Mike was always there for family and friends, always with a smile and helping out however he could. He had his parents’ sense of loyalty and ability to see the good in all people. He will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Anna Louise Pizer Werries; his sister, Donna; and cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his brothers, David, Lawrence (LJ), Rich (Terry Carney); and sisters, Mary (Bill) Freudenrich, Kathy and Peggy; as well as his nieces and nephews, Jill and Erik (partner Amanda Arce and daughter Lia) and Brianna and Brendan Werries. We would be remiss not to mention the very special fiance Pamela Moran, who was a constant companion and source of happiness when they connected this past year. Thanks, Pamela, for all you have done. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations made in Mike's name to either the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. And thank you to all the family and friends who have been so supportive. Friends will be received Friday, May 17, 2024, from 3-8 p.m. in THE CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh. St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday the 18th of May in Our Lady of Victory Church/Guardian Angel Parish at 2 p.m. Burial will be private. Everyone is asked to please meet at church. www.jarviefuneralhome.com.
