Michael Paterak, age 72, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Born on December 6, 1953, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Michael lived a life defined by strength, kindness, and devotion to those he loved. He was a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose presence brought laughter, wisdom, and joy to so many.
Michael is survived by his loving daughter, Melissa Thomas (Russell); his grandchildren, Michael Paterak-Thomas, Makayla Thomas, and Reece Thomas; his great-grandson, Kieren Thomas; brother; Joseph Paterak of Richmond VA. as well as extended family members and countless friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Paterak; his grandson, Ryan James Thomas; his parents, Jeanne and Joseph Paterak; and many cherished grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
Michael was an avid Steelers fan who loved managing and sponsoring numerous softball teams throughout the years. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his family and friends. In his younger years, he worked at Union Spring and Carolina Coil. He later dedicated more than 30 years to owning and operating Tailgaters Bar and Grill in Cheswick, Pennsylvania, where he built lasting friendships and became a well-known member of the community. Michael was a lifetime member of the Greenville S.C. Shriners and Masonic Lodge as well as the Krivan and former Acme Club.
Though Michael is no longer with us, his legacy will live on through his family and in the hearts of the many friends whose lives he touched. He will be remembered for his generosity, his sense of humor, his dedication to those he loved, and the countless memories he leaves behind.

Friends will be received Thursday June 25, 2026, from 3-7pm in THE CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME Inc. 801 Pittsburgh St. where services will commence at 11am. Friday with interment in Deer Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital.
