Loretta (Jardas) Carroll, 97, of Springdale, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021, at Concordia of Fox Chapel, where she had been a resident for the last four years. She was born July 9, 1923, in Star City, W.Va., to John and Pauline (Kerlicker) Jardas. Loretta grew up in West Newton, and graduated Mount Mercy College (now Carlow University). She was an active member of Guardian Angels Parish St. Alphonsus Church as a Eucharistic minister, CCD teacher, and a member of Catholic Daughters of America and Ladies of Charity. She volunteered with many organizations, including Meals on Wheels, Jubilee Kitchen and the New Kensington Literacy Program. She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, yoga, gardening and bird watching. She is survived by her children, Teresa (Lawrence) Nitoski, of Natrona Heights, Mark (Patricia) Carroll, of Virginia Beach, Va., Kevin (Marie Zajac) Carroll, of Chicago, Ill., David (Lisa Bizon-) Carroll, of Plymouth, Mich., Jeanmarie (Joseph) Veltri, of New Kensington, Christine (James) Lloyd, of Sarver, Brian (Tammy) Carroll, of Sarver, Maureen Carroll (Eric) Davis, of Atlanta, Ga., and Laurie (Jeffrey) Remo, of Zelienople; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Loretta was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James, in 2003; daughter, Mary Joan, in 2018; and brother, Bernard. Services and interment are private for her immediate family and are entrusted to THE CHARLES B.
