Lidia (Contento) Sabatini, 93, of Cheswick, passed away, from covid-19, Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, in Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia. She was born Oct. 14, 1927, in Rural Ridge, to the late Paul and Filomena D'Isabella Contento. She and late husband of 64 years, William Sabatini, had been longtime residents of the Valley. Their life and legacy was love of family and making friends feel like family. Lidia was always looking to do more for everyone. She sewed parachutes during World War II as part of the war effort. Mrs. Sabatini was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church in Harwick for many years. She was the co-owner of Sabatini Refuse Service for 45 years with her late husband until they retired in 1990. In 1975, they vacationed to Bradenton, Fla., to watch the Pirates during spring training, and Anna Maria Island became their home away from home. She made many close friends there and was always talking about going back, even in her last days. Her love language was food. She was an excellent chef and enjoyed cooking for her friends and family. Anyone could walk into her home and have a meal put in front of them. Lidia wrote two cookbooks; the first one called "Mom's Kitchen," followed by "Back to Mom's Kitchen," all with recipes from her mother and mother-in-law, with all proceeds going to numerous charities. She also enjoyed preparing meals for family of patients at Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia in Cabot. The surviving and luckiest, most frequent recipients of her cooking were sons, William (Brooke) Sabatini, of New Mexico, and Gerald (Andrea) Sabatini, of Apollo; daughter, Judi (David) D'Amico, of Sarver; eight grandchildren, Quinn, Angela, Jay, Jerry, Phil, Jill, Patrick and Julia; and eight great-grandchildren, Marielle, Milo, Lidia, Daniella, Louie, Jude, Bruno and Andy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William, of 64 years; three brothers, Mario, James and Frank; and two sisters, Jenny Puz and Loretta Kresiak. Also, by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and godchildren. During these times, services and interment will be private. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date and time. Arrangements are by THE CHARLES B. JARVIE FUNERAL HOMES INC., 801/1607 Pittsburgh St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Good Samaritan at Concordia, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023.
