Joseph M. Pobiak, 94, of Springdale, passed away Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, in UPMC East. He was born Nov. 6, 1927, to his parents, the late John and Pauline Varos Pobiak. Mr. Pobiak graduated from Springdale High School in 1945 then enlisted in the Navy, serving at the end of the World War II. He was employed at Arnold Glass plant until its closing and then worked in the Harmarville Coal Mine until his retirement. Joe was a member of St. Alphonsus Church/Guardian Angel Parish in Springdale. He loved to hunt and fish, but his favorite was playing his harmonica. He even played Christmas Carols for the doctors and nurses while attached to oxygen in the hospital. Joe was a kind, soft-hearted man and was loved by all who knew him. Surviving him are his son, Robert "Bob" (Elsa) Pobiak; son, Joe (Monica) Pobiak; and daughter, Paula Pobiak, all of West Palm, Fla.; brothers, Hank Pobiak, of Springdale and Ed (Samantha) Pobiak, of Palm Coast, Fla.; four grandchildren, Matt, Leigh Ann, Jason (Brooke) and Amanda; three great-grandchildren, Ami, Chloe and Carley; and his girlfriend of 31 years, Marilyn Carner. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Rayburg Pobiak; and brothers, George, Rudy, and Albert Pobiak.
