Janet M. (Walmsley) Matisz

Janet M. Matisz, 94, of Cheswick, passed away at home Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021. She was born Oct. 28, 1926, to her late parents, Walter and Isabella Robertson Walmsley. Janet was a lifelong resident of the Valley, born in Yukon and raised in Blawnox, growing up with her 12 siblings and which she always referred to herself as being "one of a baker's dozen". She was a soft spoken and gentle wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed watching Pirates baseball and singing songs from the past. She spoke of being happiest when she was holding a baby in her arms, which she found often throughout her life holding seven children, 14 grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. All of whom, she adored deeply. Surviving her are her loving husband of 71 years, Stephen Matisz; daughters, Diana Matisz, of Cheswick, Sharon (Robert) Greco, of South Carolina, Claudia Cecchetti (John Shriver), of Marionville, and Janice (Clyde) Dreher, of Ohio; sons, Douglas Matisz, of Springdale, and Mark (Sheila) Matisz, of Cheswick; daughter-in-law, Karen Matisz; and sister, Dorothy Roach, of Cheswick. Besides her parents and 11 siblings, she was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Matisz and daughter-in-law, Susan Matisz. Services are private for her immediate family. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park. Funeral plans are by The CHARLES B.
