James Szarnicki, 67, loving husband, father and grandfather, of The Villages, Fla., passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022. He was born Nov. 25, 1954, to Stanley and Irene Szarnicki of Natrona. He was a graduate of Penn State University. Jim worked at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 33 years, retiring in June of 2011. He was the "go to guy" as an Assistant County Maintenance Manager, working to keep the roads safe in Allegheny County. He survived by his wife of 40 years, Fran; daughter, Lynne (David) Rau, with grandsons, Henry and William; and son, Stephen (Tamra) Szarnicki; his sisters, Mary Jo (Tony) di Rocco and Kathy (Denny) Smith; brothers, John (Amy Killeen) Szarnicki and Paul (Shaun) Szarnicki; brother-in-law, David Armstrong (the late Susan Armstrong); and numerous nephews and nieces. Jim and Fran settled in The Villages, Fla., in 2014. An avid golfer, he achieved a hole-in-one at River Forest Country Club in 2010 and one at The Villages this past year. He could beat you at cards with his left hand while finishing a crossword with his right hand. Jim was the current president of the Home-Owners Association of the San Antonio Villas of The Villages, Fla. Viewing will be at the CHARLES B.
