James R. Matassa Jr., 52, of Harmar, passed away unexpectedly at home, Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born July 4, 1971, to his mother, Mildred (Faub) Matassa, and the late James R. Matassa Sr., and had been a lifelong resident of the community. Jimmy graduated from Springdale High School in 1989 and worked for Allegheny Valley Sewage Authority, where he eventually retired. He enjoyed antique cars, golfing, politics (big Donald Trump supporter), but especially spending time with his daughter, Ava, who meant the world to him. Jimmy will be sadly missed by all who knew him: Surviving him are daughter, Ava Matassa; mother, Mildred (Faub) Matassa; sisters, Kimberly (Richard) Toney and Jaycee (Robert) Stein; nieces and nephews, Chelsea (Andrew) Clark, Caitlin (Cameron) Miller, Ashley Toney, Richard (Katie) Toney, Hayley Toney, Austin Toney and Samantha Lovic; great-nieces and –nephews, Maverick, Jace and Willow Clark and Bristol Miller; and many other friends, family and caregivers. Besides his father, James was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Thomas Lovic. Friends will be receivedon from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2023, in THE CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St. Services will start at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the funeral home, with burial to follow in Greenwood Memorial Park.
