James S. Marutiak, 78, of Lower Burrell, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023. He was born April 4, 1945, to his parents, the late Stephen and Virginia (Rider) Marutiak. Jim graduated from Fox Chapel High School and enlisted in the Air Force, serving in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He was an incredible husband, father and grandfather. Even though he worked his entire life, often at more than one job at a time, he was somehow always able to be there for his family, never missing a game, performance, vacation or any event, no matter how important or trivial it was. He was known for his friendly, easygoing attitude that made him so well-liked among his neighbors and coworkers. As a younger man, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. As he got older, he spent his time keeping his house and yard in pristine condition and watching movies on television while dozing off on the couch with his closest family member, his cat, Kitty Purry. Surviving him are his son, Gary Marutiak; granddaughter, Peyton Marutiak; two brothers, David and William; and two sisters, Barbara and Beverly. Besides his parents, he was also preceded by his wife, Dolores, in 2021. Friends are invited for his visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday June 15, 2023, in THE CHARLES B. JARVIE CHESWICK FUNERAL HOME INC. 1607 Pittsburgh St. Burial will be in Deer Creek Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in James's name to The St. Jude Foundation. www.jarviefuneralhome.com.
