Evelyn Sue (Steele) McCormick, 81, of Cheswick, went home to meet her Lord and Savior Friday, March 10, 2023. She was raised in Coeburn, Va., by her parents, Bascom and Ruby (Hall) Steele. A graduate of Radford University she had a deep love of children evidenced by her life's work in education. She was co-owner and director of Cheswick Presbyterian Church Pre-School for more than 25 years. Over the years, she also was a long-term substitute teacher in the Allegheny Valley School District, health and phys. Ed. teacher for St. Alphonsus, JV basketball coach, teacher at Crossroads Preschool and active in her children's PTA, Girl Scout leader, church choir and also sold World Book Encyclopedias. She moved to Cheswick in 1962 when she married the love of her life, Bennett McCormick, who predeceased her and cherished their almost 60 years together. Sue is survived by her daughter, April Winklmann (Christian Perry); son, Brian, and daughter-in-law, Becky McCormick. She was most proud of her three grandsons, Evan (Kelly) Winklmann, of Houston, Texas, Adam Winklmann, of Atlanta, Ga., and Braden McCormick, of O'Hara Township. She is the great-grandmother of Anna Vivien Winklmann. She is also survived and loved by numerous nieces and nephews; brother-in law, John Bobolsky; and sister-in law, Bethel Steele. In accordance with her wishes, all arrangements were private. A memorial service will be held Saturday April 1, 2023 in Cheswick United Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m. for greeting and 10:30 a.m. service.
