Erma Jean (Scholtz) Lutz, 93, of Springdale, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, at Rosebrook Assisted Living, in Sarver. She was born July 29, 1930, to her parents, the late Frank and Erma Kopp Scholtz. Springdale was her home her entire life, and what a wonderful life it was. In 1948, Erma Jean graduated from Divine Providence Academy, where she was class president and valedictorian. She earned her degree as a registered nurse from Allegheny Valley School of Nursing in Natrona Heights. She worked for numerous facilities in the area and her passion for nursing and caring for others was well-known. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Alphonsus Church, in Springdale, where she was involved with The Mother's Club and Catholic Daughters of America. She had many dear friends in Springdale, particularly her card club buddies. She was an accomplished pianist and played often, when she was not baking and cooking for her family, friends and anyone who stopped by at 600 Colfax Street, where she made it impossible not to feel welcome. Surviving her are the love of her life, Paul M. Lutz, whom she married on Valentine's Day over 70 years ago; daughter, Christine (Herbert Mahone) Lutz-Mahone, of North Carolina; son, Larry (Judy Varshine) Lutz, of Sarver; son, Karl (Diana Marongiu) Lutz, of Natrona Heights; daughter, Mary Jean (Joseph) Bujdos, of Indiana; son, Michael (Jason Sumney) Lutz, of Pittsburgh; brother, Dr. Kenneth Scholtz, of Fox Chapel; and 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, David Lutz; sister, Linda Long; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Scholtz. Mrs. Lutz's family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, in THE CHARLES B.
