Daniel Liberati Obituary

Daniel Liberati, 83, of Harmar Township, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born on June 6, 1943, Daniel was the cherished son of Mario and Antoinette (Bonetti) Liberati. He was always so proud to say that he was born and raised in Harmarville. At a young age he was chosen to be an altar boy, serving for eight years at the St. Francis Parish.

Mr. Liberati was a 1961 graduate of Springdale High School. He was an active member of the football, golf and soccer teams. Dan also held a seat on the Jr./Sr. May Court. A true Dynamo through and through!

Although he enjoyed all of the sports he played, soccer was his favorite. It was his love for the game that led him to pursue off-the-field activities as well. Daniel held a 16-year position as captain on the Harmarville Hurricanes Men's Team. As a founding member of the Lower Valley Sports Union, Daniel was instrumental in forming the Harmar Soccer Youth Program in the early 1970s, where he served as a coach. Beyond playing and coaching, Daniel enjoyed refereeing high school soccer for 38 years and the Pittsburgh league for 15 years.

A born leader, Mr. Liberati worked in retail management for Clabers Hardware in Fox Chapel and Jim's Thrift City (fondly known as Jungle Jim's) in the Cheswick Plaza from 1965–1988. He then shifted his focus to sales, where he was rewarded for his strong work ethic, being promoted to Operational Manager for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, overseeing 15 cemeteries until his retirement.

Mr. Liberati was a proud lifelong member of Harmar Twp. VFD. He was a certified diver in search and rescue.

Daniel enjoyed spending time visiting with friends and family, walking in the woods, hunting, attending his grandsons' sporting events, and playing with his granddog, Ike.

Mr. Liberati is survived by his sons, Dan (Carin) Liberati of Cheswick and Nicholas (Lynn) Liberati of Ada, Michigan.

His grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Pappy,” include grandsons Miles (Brittany) Liberati, Mario (fiancée Kaylin) Liberati, and Roman Liberati; and granddaughter Simone Liberati.

He is also survived by his brother, Paul (Elaine) Liberati; sister, Elizabeth “Libby” Mele (deceased Carl); sister-in-law, Sara Liberati; and several nieces and nephews.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved and cherished wife, Margaret (Tarasi) Liberati; toddler sister, Michalena; brother, Michael “Mickey” Liberati; and niece, Annie Liberati.

The family of Mr. Liberati would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Shelley Kowalkowski Hargenrader, Good Samaritan Hospice, and Rebecca Residence Skilled Nursing for the kindness and care shown to Daniel during his final days.
