Damya Yungwirth Obituary

Damya Michele Yungwirth, 16, of Springdale, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024, with her family at her side after a short, hard-fought battle with brain cancer. Born July 11, 2007, she is the beloved daughter of Steve and Shelly (Walls) Yungwirth, and sister to Aligha, Sonny, Matthew, Dontae and Jonathan. Damya also will be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, especially Jamie, who was like her big sister. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Russell and Jean Walls; and paternal grandparents, Joseph and Loretta Yungwirth. Damya was a dedicated member of the Springdale High School Color Guard and varsity girls’ basketball team. She also took great pride in her various roles in Springdale’s musicals and school plays. She made friends with so many of her classmates and touched and inspired so many of the teachers and faculty. Damya’s dedication to her schoolwork was important to her and while school was her favorite place to be, she had a passion for life and had so many interests. She was studying culinary arts at Forbes Road East with dreams of being a baker someday. She loved spending time with her brothers watching movies and playing basketball. Something many people didn’t know about Damya was her love of horror films. She loved music and was seldom seen without her headphones, listening to her favorite songs every opportunity she got. Damya was never afraid to try new things and she put her best effort into everything she did, and that positivity was infectious. Damya’s bright smile, kind nature, and loving spirit truly made her shine. Her big heart and willingness to help others before herself is just one of the many things that made Damya so special to everyone who knew her. Though Damya was taken from us too soon, she made an impact on everyone who met her and loved her. For 16 years she made this world a better place. She will be greatly missed and will never be forgotten. The Yungwirth family would like to thank the staff at Children’s Hospital for the excellent care Damya received as well as Pastor Rick, the congregation at Springdale Open Bible Church, and the community, family and friends for their prayers, donations, love and support.  Family and friends will be received at CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME at 801 Pittsburgh Street from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 28. Services to commence at 10 a.m. Saturday at Springdale Open Bible Church 401 Colfax Street in Springdale. Following the service, Damya will be laid to rest at Twin Valley Memorial Park, 483 Athena Drive, Delmont, PA 15626. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Damya’s name to Springdale Open Bible Church, SHS Activity Fund (memo SHS Drama Club), SHS Band Boosters (memo color guard), or the SHS Athletic Fund (memo girls basketball). www.jarviefuneralhome.com
