Bernard Wieszczynski, 90, of Harwick, passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Braddock to the late Adam and Janina Blocki Wieszczynski. Bernie was a graduate of Braddock High School and worked at J&L Steel, Union Switch and Signal, Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory and retired as a machinist at Westinghouse in Cheswick in 1992. He was a practicing Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church in Harwick. He was a longtime volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Council. Bernie was an avid sports fan and a longtime Steelers season ticket holder. Even during tough times, he lit up like a light bulb when he saw the little ones and was always the life of the party. Surviving him are his loving wife of 68 years, Joan Weber Wieszczynski; son, Edward (Andrea) Wieszczynski, of Plum; daughters, Linda (Steve) Shurina, of Cabot, and Aimee Killian, of Brackenridge; seven grandchildren 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and three foster grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Audrey Salvucci, Pat Russell and Jean Booth; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bernie and Joan also lovingly took care of three foster babies in their home. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Jules, Edward and Anthony; sisters, Eleanor Kalinski and Cecilia Frankwich; his son, Bernard; and grandson, Bernard Wieszczynski. Friends are welcome from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020, in the CHARLES B. JARVIE CHESWICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1607 Pittsburgh St., where his blessing will commence at noon. Burial will follow in Braddock Cemetery. Due to the ongoing pandemic, only 10 people are permitted inside, so please be aware you may be asked to wait.
