Bela Bruno Obituary

Bela Jayne “Billie” Bruno, 96, of Cheswick passed away peacefully on Sunday March 28, 2021 at Presbyterian Senior Care Home in Oakmont. She was born March 26, 1925 in Duncansville to the late Theodore and Rose Helen Heltzel Stifler. Billie was born and raised in the Duncansville area, graduating from Hollidaysburg High School in 1943. After her Father passed away, she was raised by her Aunt and Uncle, Jennie Mea and John Detwiler. Once she graduated High School, she moved with her Aunt and Uncle to New Jersey. She only spent a year in New Jersey, before moving to Pittsburgh to work in her Aunt Marie’s restaurant. She was later employed at Rexall Drug Company. Rexall is where she met her best friend, Margie (Bruno) Robl. Through their friendship and a Rexel employee picnic at Kennywood Park, Billie met the love of her life, Vince. Vince and Billie married on October 26, 1946 and were happily married for 67 years. They lived in Oakland, until moving to Harmarville in 1951. For many years, Billie was a homemaker and worked for the Sisters at St. Alphonsus School in Springdale. After her daughter graduated High School, she was employed at Mt. Calvary Day Care and later Bid-A-Wee Day Care, both in New Kensington. While working, she went on to earn her Associates degree in Early Childhood Development. For many years, she enjoyed babysitting her granddaughters and later enjoyed being a Great Grandmother to Mase and G. She always took pride in her home and it was decorated with every detail. She loved caring for and admiring her outdoor flowers. You could always find her reading a good book. She was the oldest of six siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Kathie (Dan) Matus of Cheswick, granddaughter Danielle Matus (Jeff Lynch) and two great grandchildren Mason and Gianna Midgley, two sisters Patty Ewan of Vineland, New Jersey, Donna (Willard) Guth of Elmer, New Jersey and a brother Robert (Donna) Rhoades of Murfreesboro North Carolina.  Also survived by her cousin and dear friend, Joyce Beck and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Vince Bruno, granddaughter Keri Midgley, and two sisters, Jackie Walters and JoAnn Baker. Friends and family will be received on Wednesday March 31, from 10 am until services at noon at the CHARLES B. JARVIE CHESWICK FUNERAL HOME INC. 1607 Pittsburgh Street with burial next to her husband in Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar Twp.
