Arnold Joseph Capellman Jr., 90, passed away Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, at the home of his daughter where he had resided for the past six years. Born May 30, 1932, in Tarentum, he was the son of the late Arnold J. Capellman Sr. and Ermaline Palm Capellman. A graduate of Tarentum High School, he enlisted into the Army as a radio operator and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant before completing his service and returned home to begin his higher education. Arnold attended California State Teachers College, earning a bachelor's degree in education and later a master's degree in guidance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. During his 35 year career with Deer Lakes School District, Arnold taught generations of students advanced mathematics, mechanical drawing, and industrial arts as well as adult education classes in the evening. A faculty favorite, he was often referred to as "Mr. C." and greeted with the occasional "Hey, Arnie!" He would often be spotted at student events, supporting his beloved Lancers. Arnold retired in 1993 but remained active, delivering flowers and smiles for Springdale Floral for years. Arnold enjoyed traveling and shopping and made many trips over the years to Lancaster where he and his wife would visit the outlet malls and Amish countryside. He also enjoyed the Civic Light Opera and eating out with his family. It must be said that Grieco's Carefree Inn and Olive Garden were favorites. When not out and about, Arnold could be found at home relaxing in his favorite chair watching television, reading the latest news, boldly working the daily crossword puzzle in pen, and taking care of his grand-dogs who he fondly referred to as the "mutts." He spent a great deal of his retirement clad in orange and black, attending Dynamo football, baseball, soccer, and volleyball events supporting his grandchildren and his community. Arnold was fiercely proud of his grandchildren and their achievements, telling anyone with ears that his grandson was serving his country as an army reservist and his granddaughter was attending college at his alma mater. Prior to his retirement, Arnold was a proud member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) and was also a longtime member of the local VFW. Arnold is survived by his son, Jeff, with whom he shared his home; his daughter, Amy, who took care of him through the latter years; his grandson, Erik Michael, and his granddaughter, Leann Marie, both of Cheswick, and his two "grand-dogs," Albus and Percy. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Eileen Tessitore, of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He now joins the love of his life, his wife of 42 years, Alice Hepler Capellman, who has waited in Heaven for him since 2002. He is also preceded by his parents; a brother, Robert John Capellman; and an infant son, Raymond Michael Capellman. Friends, family and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Arnold are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8 2022, at CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St., Springdale, where services will commence at 11 a.m. Tuesday with burial to follow at Lakewood Memorial Gardens. Our family would like to thank Dr. Chandra Polum, and the Deer Lakes Medical Association for the excellent care they provided to Arnold throughout the years. www.jarviefuneralhome.com.
