Michael “Mokey” Smotzer, 88, of Springdale, passed away on Monday October 9, 2017. He was born on August 30, 1929 to his parents, the late John and Mary Bihun Smotzer and has been a longtime resident of the community. Mr. Smotzer served in The U.S. Army during WWII in occupational Japan and belonged to both the Springdale VFW and American Legion. Michael worked for The Crucible Coal Mine where he was also a pitcher for their baseball team. He enjoyed singing, bargain shopping, playing his harmonica and golfing where he had a hole-in-one at Woodlawn Golf Course. Michael also liked watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and especially attending Springdale Dynamos football games. Surviving him are:

Georgetta Smotzer of East Deer
Deborah (Stanley) Mielecki of Freeport
Sons Michael (Darlene) Smotzer of Saxonburg
David (Pamela) Smotzer of Allegheny Twp.
5 Grandchildren Julie Andrews, Samantha Fonzi, Randy and Nikki Mielecki and Connor Smotzer.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers John and George Smotzer and a sister Marie Boone and two Son-in-laws Duane Banas and Richard Reno.
Friends will be received on Thursday October 12th from 2-4 and 6-9pm in THE CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC. 801 Pgh. St. with Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Friday at 10am in St. Alphonsus Church with The Rev. Kenneth Kezmarsky officiating and burial to follow in Deer Creek Cemetery. Veteran’s service at 7:00pm Thursday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to The Springdale Veteran’s Association 1151 Pgh. St.
