John Takach

John Takach, 89, of Springdale, passed away Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017. He was born Feb. 25, 1928, in Leechburg, to the late Paul and Mary Hospador Takach, and resided in Springdale since 1955. He was employed as a teacher, guidance counselor and assistant principal in the Allegheny Valley School District, where he retired after 47 years. During World War II, John served in the Navy, and was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister, and a member of the Springdale VFW and the American Legion. He also was a former member of the Cheswick-Springdale Lions Club. Survivors include two sons, Paul (Camela) Takach, of Detroit, Mich., and John (Janet) Takach, of Cheswick; three daughters, Barbara (Bruce) Matthews, of Catonsville, Md., Janet (David) Harrell, of Chicago, Ill., and Marie (Raymond) Lombardi, of Pittsburgh; 15 grandchildren; and a sister, Paulina Fennell, of Butler. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kazor Takach, in 1991; a brother, Paul Takach; three sisters, Mary Ondrey, Elizabeth Nowacki and Ann Strapac; and a granddaughter. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m Tuesday at the CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St. A Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Alphonsus Church, with burial to follow in Springdale Cemetery.
