Helen (Durkt) Basar

Helen (Durkt) Basar, 94, of Harmar Township, died Thursday, May 3, 2018, in Harmar Village. She was born Oct. 19, 1923, in New Kensington, to the late Charles and Mary Bunder Durkt, and was a lifelong resident of the community. Helen enjoyed reading romance books, word search puzzles and watching the Hallmark channel. Survivors are her stepson, William (Donna) Basar, of Springdale; three granddaughters, Sharon (Mark) Bird, Carrie (Carl) Hutter and Michelle (Matt) Leiberton; also, seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Basar; three sisters, Ann Difatta, Margaret Dodaro and Mary Durkt; and three brothers, George, Mike and John Durkt. Mrs. Basar's family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday May 7, in THE CHARLES B. JARVIE CHESWICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1607 Pittsburgh St., with a blessing service following visitation at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
