Anna Louise (Pizer) Werries, 93, of Springdale, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 7, 2018. Mrs. Werries was born April 27, 1925, in Argentine, to her parents, the late Thomas and Mary Funkhouser Pizer, and has been a resident of Springdale since junior high. She belonged to St. Alphonsus Church and was involved with the Springdale Alumni Association. Until recently, she enjoyed get-togethers with her friends from the class of '43 and worked on that reunion committee for years. Anna was a voracious reader (still reading a book in a day or so) and an avid fan of Pittsburgh sports teams, especially the Penguins. She also liked to play cards, "500" and euchre were among her favorite games that she enjoyed playing with her loving family. In nice weather, Anna enjoyed sitting on her front porch watching for hummingbirds, waving to passerby's and offering a dimpled smile to all. Anna loved family immensely and by family, that meant not only her children but her multiple generations of nieces, nephews and cousins and the friends of her children as well. She was the link that kept others connected. Anna was a source of light and laughter for those who knew her and to know her was to cherish her. Her capacity to love was enormous. Surviving her are her son, Michael Werries Jr., of Springdale; son, David "Oui" Werries, of Cheswick; daughter, Mary (Bill) Freudenrich, of Cheswick; son, Larry "LJ" Werries, of Springdale; daughter, Kathy Werries, of Springdale; daughter, Peggy Werries, of Springdale; son, Richard (Terry Carney) Werries, of Springdale Township; grandchildren, Jill and Erik Freudenrich (companion Amanda Arce) and Brianna and Brendan Werries. She was also "Grandma Annie" to Uriah Beech; and sister-in-law Peggy Kristof. Family and friends were the cornerstone of Anna's life. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and their children. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Michael Werries, and daughter, Donna Raye Werries and three brothers Tom, Ray and David Pizer, sisters Evelyn MacMurdy and Isobel Prasnikar as well as three infant sisters. The Werries family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, in the CHARLES B.
