Yolanda (Lana) E. Ficerai, 87, died on August 3, 2017.  She was born in 1929, in New Kensington.  Lana is survived by her three children, daughter Jan (Larry) McMeans, and sons Joseph (Chico) Ficerai and Ken Ficerai, 7 grandchildren; Ian (Silica) McMeans, Mia (Amir) Hegazy, Seppe and Andre Ficerai, Gabriella, Caleb and Noah Ficerai-Garland, three great-grandchildren, Alisdair, Eamon and Ciaran McMeans; brothers Amos (Ann) Spinelli, sisters Amy Klopsic and Jean (Bill) Michalak, and 26 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 40 years, Joseph A. Ficerai, her parents, Rosa and David Spinelli, her sisters Lucy Walmsley and Savina (Sadie) Pati and her brothers Domenico Spinelli and James Spinelli. Lana graduated from Springdale High School in 1947. She worked as the office manager and bookkeeper at River Sand Supply Company for many years, and retired from Burrell Construction Company in 1990. Lana was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Springdale where she assisted in the office (counted money), served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member and served as secretary of Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed social events especially her time as a member of the West Deer Travel League. Lana loved God and her strong, enduring and unwavering Christian faith was the foundation of her life. Her devout prayer life was extended to any and all who were in need. She was honest, hardworking, kind-hearted, loving, helpful and wise. Lana was a very positive person who helped everyone she could whenever she could. She loved to cook and bake and always seemed happiest when feeding someone. She also enjoyed sewing, dancing, and playing cards. Lana was proud of her family and of her Italian heritage which extended her “family” far beyond her immediate family to the many friends and acquaintances she had while living all of her life in (Harmar Township) Acmetonia. She loved family gatherings, especially for the holidays, and welcomed company at any time at the home she and Joe built with the help of family and friends as a young couple. Lana was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother whose faith inspired and blessed everyone she knew. We will miss her more than words can possibly express but we are comforted in knowing that she is home with the Lord. Friends will be received on Monday August 7th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in THE CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC. 801 Pittsburgh Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday August 8th at 10 am in St. Alphonsus Church with burial to follow in Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar Twp.
