Kenneth Hugh "Spanky" Lloyd, 73, of Springdale, passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, at UPMC Presbyterian Pittsburgh. He was born Dec. 16, 1944, in Braddock, to the late Kenneth W. and Isabella McMahon Lloyd. Survivors are his wife, Mary Catherine Lloyd; two sons, Kenneth David Lloyd (middle name after David Siemon who died in Vietnam), wife, Robin; daughter, Claire 14, Kenneth 12, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Kevin Edward Lloyd, wife Laura, sons,  Carson 11, Colin 10, of South Lyon, Mich.; brothers-in-law, Ed O'Malley, James (Diane) Byrnes, Thomas Byrnes, Raymond (Cheryl) Byrnes and Robert (Kelly) Byrnes; and sister-in-law, Patricia Byrnes. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Natalie Poscatko and Martha O'Malley. He was a 1962 graduate of Springdale High School, where he excelled in both football and soccer, "All State in 1962" in both sports he proudly let you know. He served in the Marine Corps from 1963-1967 with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He played football for Quantico Marine football team. He was a member of the Quantico Marine Athletes Association, past president of IBEW Local 148, co-founder of the Conley/Drennan Youth Basketball League, which still exists today, former member of Allegheny County Labor Council, past district governor for Lions International District 14B, past president of Cheswick/Springdale Lions Club, Lions International Melvin Jones Award recipient, member of the Allegheny Valley YMCA Board of Directors and Springdale High School Alumni Association board member. He was inducted into the Allegheny Valley School District Hall of Fame, was a member of the Allegheny Valley School District Advisory Board, Lower Valley Democratic Chairman, Mayor of Borough of Springdale, member of Springdale VFW, and member of BPOE Elks Club in Tarentum. He was a 38-year employee of the Duquesne Light Company. He held many positions throughout his long career. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, in Springdale, at the CHARLES B. JARVIE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St. Christian funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, in St. Alphonsus Church (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH)  with the Rev. Ken Kezmarsky officiating. Burial will follow in Springdale Cemetery with full military honors. Springdale Veterans Association will conduct services at 7 p.m. Thursday evening in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Alphonsus Memorial Fund or Conley/Drennan Youth Basketball League.
