Joel T. Wunnenberg, 18, of Springdale, passed away unexpectedly while  at Marietta College from complications of blood clots on Thursday March 9^th, 2017.  He was born on May 2, 1998 to his loving parents, Doug and Kim Corrigan Wunnenberg.  Joel was a 2016 graduate of Springdale High School where he excelled at football # 22 and was a member of the National Honor Society.  He set one of the weightlifting squat records in high school and has yet to be broken.   He was a unique young gentleman who touched many lives by his unselfishness and fun loving attitude towards life.  He was more of a man at 18 years old than some could ever wish.  Joel’s smile was contagious and will always make a lasting impression on everyone that knew him.  He was a math genius and was majoring in Petroleum Engineering at Marietta College.  He was a middle linebacker #38   on the football team at school and was a member of McDonough Leadership Program.  When not lifting weights, or playing football, he volunteered at a local animal shelter walking dogs, which he loved.   Recently Joel, his mother and older brother Brandon received matching tattoos with the word “Famigila”, which is Italian for family. He and his siblings were inseparable and had the tattoo  designed  to show each other their bond towards each other.  Joel was athlete, scholar and friend to many but no matter what he did, or where he went, he always put his family first and loved them very much.

Joel was preceded by a brother Joshua Daniel Wunnenberg

Joel’s family will receive friends on Monday March 13^th from 1-4 and 6-9pm in THE CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC.  Services will begin at 11am Tuesday in Springdale United Methodist Church.  Everyone is asked to please meet at church.  Burial will be held in Deer Creek Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his brother.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to 22-38 Joel Wunnenberg Scholar Athlete Excellence award.  P.O.
