James W. "Smokey" MarshDecember 13, 1934 ~ May 2, 2017 (age 82)
James W. “Smokey” Marsh, 82, of Cheswick, passed away on May 2, 2017. He was born on December 13, 1934 to his parents, the late Angelo and Mary Fucci Marsh and has been a lifelong resident of the Valley. Jim served his country during the Korean Conflict in The U.S. Army. After his discharge, he worked for Allegheny County where he eventually retired in 1992.
He enjoyed golfing and belonged to several golf leagues in the Valley. Smokey proudly scored a “hole-in-one” at Hickory VFW Golf Course during his play. He was an active member of the Springdale VFW and American Legion. Jim played Legion baseball and was known as one of the best left handed pitchers around. All who knew him said he could really “Smoke” a ball and hence was known as Smokey ever since. He also enjoyed watching all the Pittsburgh sports teams.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Dolores Carrigan Marsh, who was his caregiver for several years.
Sibblings- Marion Nezovich, Agnes Pater, Patsy (Anna Marie) Marsh, Carmine Kicmol, Gloria (Carl) Wilson and Robert (Bonnie) Marsh.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers Samuel, Charles and Angelo Jr. Also, survived by numerous nieces and nephews, Great-nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Thursday May 4th from 2-8pm in THE CHARLES B. JARVIE CHESWICK FUNERAL HOME 1607 Pgh. St. Veterans service to begin at 7:00pm. A blessing service will commence on Friday at 10am by Rev. Ken Kezmarsky with burial to follow in Deer Creek Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to your local animal shelter or humane society.
